Specialty Coatings Create an Impact

Specialty coatings in printing can add excitement to your marketing materials. There are several choices that enable you to really get creative. Below are a few examples of different coatings and their effect on your materials.

Akuafoil— By far my favorite, seen left. This glittery clear coat can be added to any area of your card, giving it a metallic look without paying for the metallic ink. The coating can actually be placed over any color to give it that shiny look and make any color underneath seem metallic. The color is very vibrant and beautiful.

Foil—Foils have been around for years and years. They are expensive, but the look is classic. Foils are made lamination, which adds an expensive step to the process.

Spot UV Coating—This is just a clear coating to add shine. The example shows how adding the clear coat to only certain areas, make it stand out. It glistens in the light. Very much working like the Akuafoil. This coating has no glitter effect. It looks wet as opposed to metallic.

Silk Lamination—Silk laminated cards are created for a flat, matte look. A lot of designers will use the silk lamination in combination with a specialty coating to give it a stark contrast between the two. Our cards, above, use the silk lamination in combination with spot UV. It creates a soft card with the excitement of the shine when it hits the light.
