Brochure printing quantities depend on the use of the brochure. A brochure is usually printed with a clear goal in mind. To have in the office for potential customers, to be handed out at conventions and expos, to be placed in racks or to be mailed, etc. The rule of thumb in printing brochures, or any other marketing material for that matter, is a six months supply. That way they don't go bad and can be updated on a regular basis.
So now ask yourself what you will need in those 6 months. With your marketing plan in place already, you should be able to figure out a good number. If your marketing plan is not ready, go started on it. You should have some idea of you immediate future for your business. I'll use a customer's business as an example. They have a storefront, so they get a lot of walk-ins. Take the average weekly new customer traffic and multiply by the number of weeks. 5 new walk-ins per day 5 days a week. 36 (weeks) times 25 is 900 brochures just for walk-ins. They will also be working 4 events. The information on attendees should be available to you to guesstimate. Now, not all of the attendees will pick up a brochure. And I've been told that you should plan on 50%, but I use 75% because I do not want to be without. The 4 events and their attendeed: Expo 250 attendees Convention 1000 attendees Networking event x 2 100 attendees for both events That's 1450 total attendees. 75% of that number is approx 1090. 1090 plus the 900 for walk-ins and that gives you a little under 2,000. The price breaks for better pricing usually sit at 250, 500, 1000, 2500, 5000, 10,000 & 20,000 and so on. So that number is right in the middle of two breaks. You have two choices. You can go with a larger amount with a less expensive per piece price, but have to store the extras. Or, I can print the lesser amount for more per piece and reprint at an earlier time. That decision is yours and it's why your the boss:) Consider other variables, like what other types of advertising and marketing you will be doing in that time that might drive your walk-in numbers. Or you might have an opportunity to participate in a local networking group. What you don't want, is to run out and be left without a good piece that someone can take with them. So order enough. The "face" of your company at touch points (logo, business card, letterhead, pamphlet, brochure, banners, concept design, product mock up etc.) will etch your brand presence in the customers' minds and make your competitors stand up and take notice.
